The long one west
Lagos is not a quick hop from the airport, and treating it like one is how people end up hiring a car they did not want. The drive is about 82 km on the tolled A22, priced by a published airport guide at a fixed €65 for a car carrying up to four passengers, and realistically taking 50 to 65 minutes. Take that number as an indication rather than a quote: it comes from an airport information site, not from the companies who drive the route, so we confirm the real fare — tolls included — with a licensed local company for your dates.
An hour of unfamiliar motorway is the part of a western-Algarve holiday most worth outsourcing. It sits at the end of a flight, often at night, usually with more luggage than the group remembered packing.
Train, bus or car — the honest comparison
There are public-transport options on this corridor, and for one traveller with a rucksack they are the sensible choice. What they cost you is time and handling: getting from the terminal to the departure point, waiting for the service, and carrying everything at both ends. For couples with a week’s luggage, families with car seats, or anyone landing late, a booked car is usually both faster and — split across the vehicle — competitive. We would rather say that plainly than sell you a transfer you did not need.
What the car costs
Transfers are priced per vehicle, not per seat: published bands across the main routes run from about €27 to €65 for up to four passengers, and roughly €35 to €76 for eight-seaters, with Lagos sitting at the top of both because of the distance. Vehicle choice follows the group — cars take three or four passengers, minivans eight, minibuses up to sixteen — and on this route the boot matters more than usual, because nobody wants to rearrange suitcases on the hard shoulder.
Children and seats
Baby and child seats are supplied free by the transfer companies here, in age bands, and Portuguese law requires proper restraints for younger children. They are fitted before you land, so ages and weights need to come with the request. On an hour-long drive, the right seat is not a formality.
Who actually drives
Every transfer we arrange is run by a company on Portugal’s RNAVT travel-agency register. We do not run vehicles; we arrange the booking, confirm it directly with the company, and stay your contact when a flight moves.
Delays and cancellation terms
Drivers track inbound flights, which matters more on a long evening run than a short one. Terms vary by company and we tell you which apply before you book — one cancels free up to 24 hours ahead, another requires 48 hours and charges half the fare for a no-show.
