Where Bergamo actually puts you
Bergamo is the budget-airline airport for this lake, and it is closer than most people assume. Bergamo to Desenzano is about 79 km and about 50 minutes by road, which lands you on the southern shore — Desenzano, Sirmione, Peschiera and the Lugana vineyards behind them.
For context, Verona is the closer airport at about 32 km and 28 minutes to Sirmione, and Milan Malpensa the further at about 160 km and about 2 hours, up to 2 to 3 hours for the farther shores. Bergamo sits comfortably in the middle, and the flight prices often make it the sensible choice.
Bus or car — the straight comparison
