A small wine island, taken seriously
Menorca is not a wine region in the way the mainland is, and that is exactly what makes a day here interesting. Three estates carry the island’s wine tourism between them: the largest producer at Sant Lluís, making around 55,000 bottles a year including the only Menorcan sparkling wine and running vineyard tours, terrace tastings and a restaurant since 2004; a 5-hectare artisan winery at Ciutadella making about 30,000 bottles a year, whose guided vineyard and cellar tour ends in a three-wine tasting with Menorcan cheese and cured meats; and a 14-hectare vineyard and wine hotel at Alaior with a first vintage in 2016, tastings, restaurant pairings and its own island tours.
Between them they cover the island geographically as well as stylistically — one at each end and one in the middle — which is why a sensible day is two estates, not three.
The honest structural note
There is no verified multi-winery tour company operating here. Research found none: a Menorcan wine day is built from the estates’ own visits plus a driver, rather than bought off a shelf. Anyone selling you a packaged island wine tour is doing the same assembly, and we would rather tell you that than dress it up.
What that means practically is that the booking work is real. Estate visits are arranged ahead through each estate’s own channel — one Ciutadella winery takes tour bookings only by email, the other two through phone and booking platforms. These are small working estates, and a Tuesday in August is not a walk-in.
What it costs, honestly
Menorcan estates mostly do not publish visit prices: one Ciutadella winery sells its bottles at about €14 to €23 but publishes no tour price, and the Sant Lluís and Alaior estates take tastings by booking without a listed rate. So we quote rather than estimate. If you want the cheese side of the same afternoon, the Alaior dairy does publish its prices — about €14 for a guided tour and about €21 for the cheese-and-wine pairing visit.
Getting between them
Two estates and a lunch means someone is driving, and the point of a tasting day is that nobody has to be. Booked private transfers on the island run under VTC private-hire licences, while island taxis are municipally licensed and capped at four passengers by law — worth knowing if there are five of you. We arrange the car with the estates’ timings, not the other way round.
Season
Peak is May to October, but wine and cheese are the island’s genuine year-round option: the Alaior estate works year-round and the Alaior dairy opens Monday to Saturday all year. One date is already selling on its own: the total solar eclipse of 12 August 2026, for which the Alaior estate has an eclipse experience.
How we arrange it
We hold the visits with each estate, book the car around them, and stay your contact if the day moves. The estates and the transfer companies are independent licensed local businesses — we do not pour the wine or drive the car. Cancellation terms are not published by estates or transfer companies here, so we get them in writing per booking rather than quoting a policy.
