Why this page is shorter than the others

Because the supply here is genuinely thin, and pretending otherwise would waste your time. Our research for this valley turned up a private-chef marketplace with a South Tyrol page and a chalet-integrated chef service in Ortisei, but no standalone Val Gardena private-chef business we could verify. That is unusual for a destination of this profile, and it changes how we handle the request: this is a check-and-quote job, not something to promise before we have asked.

The evening it is actually for

The case for it is simple. After a full day on snow — a lesson, a long circuit, a snowshoe climb — nobody in the chalet wants to put boots back on, drive into a village and find a table at half past eight. A chef in the house means the day ends where it finished.

The other good use is the celebration evening: a birthday or a group’s last night, with a long table and South Tyrolean wine that mostly stays in the region.

Pricing, without invented numbers

Nobody here publishes rates, so any figure on this page would be fiction. What a quote reflects: the menu and its ingredients, how many are eating, how many hours the chef is with you, whether the evening needs serving staff, and travel to the chalet — a real factor in a valley where addresses climb the sides.

If your chalet already offers a chef, that route is usually simpler and better value than arranging one separately, and we will tell you so rather than book around it.

What to tell us

The chalet’s kitchen and whether it has a proper oven and hob, the number sitting down, the time you want to eat, allergies, the ages of any children, and whether wine is your job or the chef’s. Peak weeks need asking about months ahead rather than weeks: Christmas, New Year, and the half-term band that one Cortina ski school’s published high-season calendar puts at 11 February to 9 March are when the valley is fullest and a free evening is hardest to find.

Who cooks, and who arranges

The chef is an independent local professional who sets the price, plans the menu and stands behind the food. We plan the evening with you, confirm it directly with them, and stay your contact if numbers or timings change. We do not operate kitchens and never claim to.

The rest of the week

Days out are ski lessons in Val Gardena, the family variant, the Sellaronda ski guide, the Dolomites ski safari and the snowshoe tour. Arrival is the Innsbruck Airport transfer or Venice Airport to Val Gardena. The region sits on the Dolomites destination page, chefs elsewhere on the private chefs page.

Request availability with your dates, chalet address and guest numbers — we come back with an honest answer about who is actually free, and a quote with the inclusions spelled out.

Good to know

Is it easy to get a private chef in Val Gardena?
Less easy than in a beach destination, and we would rather say so. The valley's chefs are largely attached to hotels and chalet businesses rather than working independently, so availability is genuinely limited and depends on the week. We check rather than promise.
How much does a private chef cost here?
There is no published rate to quote. Chef work in this valley is priced per menu and per party, so an honest answer needs your date, headcount and the kind of evening you want. We come back with an itemised quote rather than a per-head guess.
Our chalet came with catering options — should we use those instead?
Often, yes. Several chalets here run their own chef service, and where that exists it is usually the simplest and best-value route. Tell us where you are staying and we will say honestly whether arranging anything separately is worth it.
How far ahead should we ask?
Much further than for a restaurant. Christmas, New Year and the February peak weeks are the hardest, and a chef with a free evening in those windows is rare. Low-season weeks are far more workable.
What sort of food?
This is a Ladin, German and Italian valley and the cooking reflects all three — mountain dishes alongside Italian ones, with South Tyrolean wine that rarely travels. Say what your group actually wants and any allergies, and the menu gets built around it.
