Paragliding near Lake Bohinj

Step off a mountain above the quietest lake in Slovenia, attached to a pilot who does this for a living and holds the permit that says so.

Request a tandem flight

Led by certified local professionals

This activity is delivered by independent, tandem pilots flying under the commercial tandem permit issued by the Slovenian Civil Aviation Agency. We arrange and confirm the day; the decision to go, the route and all safety calls belong to the certified professional leading it.

The flight, honestly described

A tandem flight is about five minutes of nerves and then something much calmer than you expect. You are clipped to a pilot, you walk to the edge, you run three or four steps and the ground stops mattering. Above Bohinj the view is the whole point: the lake below on one side, the wall of the range on the other, and the valley running out east toward Bled.

Two take-offs are used commercially: the lower Vogar and the higher Vogel, and the pilots working them are based around the lake at Stara Fužina, Ribčev Laz and Bohinjska Bistrica. Two of those companies own enough search demand that people arrive asking for them by name, which tells you how established the local flying scene is.

Who flies you

Commercial tandem paragliding in Slovenia is not an informal business. It requires a specific permit from the national civil aviation agency, granted under the operation-technical requirement for commercial tandem operations and the decree governing hang gliding and paragliding. Every flight arranged here is delivered by independent local operators whose pilots are certified professionals holding that permit. We plan the day and confirm it directly with the company; the decision to launch, the choice of take-off and the flight itself belong to the pilot you are attached to.

Fitness, ages and what is asked of you

Very little. You need to walk a short distance over uneven ground and run a few steps on command at the launch — no strength, no skill, no experience. Flights are listed from age 5 at one company, and weight ranges vary between pilots and wings, so those are confirmed individually rather than assumed. It is not suitable for anyone who cannot manage the short walk-in or who has a medical reason to avoid sudden altitude change; if in doubt, tell us and we will ask.

Season, weather and cancellation

The season runs April to November, with daily flying between 08:00 and 16:00 weather permitting. “Weather permitting” is not a formality here — it is the standard operating language of this market, and in a high-precipitation range with building afternoon thunderstorms in summer the morning slots are the reliable ones.

Flights cancelled for weather are rebooked or refunded, and free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start is the general pattern here. Book the flight for the first half of your stay so a weather day has somewhere to go.

Prices and booking

Tandem flights are listed at about 130 EUR from Vogar and about 190 EUR from Vogel, with photos and video about 30 EUR extra. Send your dates, the number flying and approximate weights, and we come back with a pilot, a take-off and a complete price — confirmed with the company that will fly you. Good to know

What does a tandem flight cost?
About 130 EUR from the lower Vogar take-off and about 190 EUR from Vogel, with photos and video roughly 30 EUR on top. The difference is height and air time, not safety. We confirm the current price with the pilot's own company before anything is held.
Vogar or Vogel — which launch?
Vogel is higher, longer and more expensive; Vogar is the shorter, cheaper flight. Both look down on the lake. If it is your first flight and you are nervous, the shorter one is not a lesser experience — it is a gentler introduction with the same view.
Do we need to be fit, and is there an age limit?
You need to be able to walk a short way on uneven ground at the take-off and run a few steps on the pilot's command — that is the whole physical requirement. Tandem flights are listed from age 5 at one company. Weight ranges and medical exclusions are pilot-specific, so send weights and any relevant conditions with your dates.
What happens if the weather is wrong?
You do not fly. Tandem flying is a weather-permitting activity, and pilots refuse days that look flyable to a passenger and are not to them. Cancelled flights are rebooked or refunded, so it is worth having a spare afternoon in your plans rather than one fixed slot.
When is the season?
April to November, with flights typically running daily between 08:00 and 16:00 when conditions allow. Mornings are generally the calmer, more predictable air; midsummer afternoons build cloud and thermals that can shut flying down.
