Why the evening is the good hour here
Sirmione faces west across the widest part of the lake, so the sun goes down over open water with the Brescia shore behind it and the castle lit from the side. During the day this peninsula is busy; by seven the coaches have gone, the day boats are back on their moorings, and the water flattens off.
That flattening is not luck. The lake runs a wind timetable — a northerly through the morning, then a southerly, the Ora, that blows through the afternoon and eases towards evening. The south basin is the calmer half of the lake to begin with, which is why an evening boat out of Sirmione is usually a glassy one.
The shape of the trip
Most evening boats are one to two hours: out around the peninsula, past the castle and the Grotte di Catullo headland, then the engine off somewhere with a view while the light does the work. The circuit itself is only 25 to 30 minutes, so what you are really buying is the sitting-still part. If you want more water, the run out towards Isola del Garda and back is about two hours and works beautifully at that hour of the day.

What an evening boat costs
Sirmione publishes more than most of the lake. One company’s list starts at 100 EUR for the 25-minute peninsula run and runs to 1,300 EUR for a full day; another charges a flat 180 EUR per hour on a boat taking up to 28 people. A private sunset hour or two sits inside that. Evening slots are the most requested of the day, so the price is firmest in July and August and softest either side of them.

Independent local companies, not us: Bertoldi Boats, We Float, Garda Tours and Sirmione Taxi Boat all work these ports. Their skippers are professional captains, and one of them states that its captains hold rescue certifications. Our part is finding the boat that is genuinely free on your date, confirming the hour and staying reachable if anything moves.
Season, weather and the call
Evening boats run through the April to October season, with the sunset hour drifting nearly two hours between April and August — an evening in June starts far later than one in early October. Summer afternoons can throw a thunderstorm, and if one is sitting over the lake at six the skipper will move or cancel your slot. The lake norm is free cancellation 24 to 48 hours ahead, and a refund or reschedule when the weather makes the call.
