Where you actually leave from
Sirmione is a town on a rock in the middle of the lake, which is why the boats matter so much here — the best view of the place is from the water looking back. Departures are spread around the peninsula: Piazzale Porto, Piazza Castello, Piazza Carducci and Lungolago Armando Diaz. They are all within a few minutes’ walk of each other inside the old town, so the practical question is not which port but which boat and which hour, and we confirm the meeting point with the skipper before you travel.
The standard runs, with real times
Four shapes cover most of what people ask for. The peninsula circuit is 25 to 30 minutes and takes in the castle, the headland and the thermal springs that rise through the lake bed on the eastern side. Out to Isola del Garda and back is about two hours. The same route with Gardone Riviera added is about three. And a full day on the lake, north into the narrows and back, is eight hours. Companies here sell tours from half an hour to a full day, and the short taxi-style runs of 30 minutes to 3 hours are a category of their own.
What it costs, without guesswork
Sirmione is unusually honest about pricing for this lake. One company publishes a full list, from the 25-minute peninsula run at 100 EUR up to a full 8-hour day from 1,300 EUR. Another charges a flat 180 EUR per hour on a boat that takes up to 28 people. Between those two numbers sits almost every private request we get here.
We do not mark those prices up or average them into a fake range. We ask the skippers who are actually free on your date, and send you their quotes with what is included — fuel, drinks, the length of the run, whether the boat waits while you swim.
Who is at the wheel
The boats out of Sirmione are run by independent local companies: Bertoldi Boats on Lungolago Armando Diaz, We Float from Piazza Castello, Garda Tours from Piazzale Porto and Sirmione Taxi Boat from Piazza Carducci. Commercial tour skippers here are professional captains, and at least one company states plainly that its captains hold rescue certifications. We plan and confirm the day; they run the boat and make every call on the water.
If you would rather drive yourself, that is a different product: boats under 40 hp can be taken out on ID alone without an Italian nautical licence, and the rental fleet is built to that limit. Say so in your message and we will point you at rental rather than a skipper.
Water, wind and children
The south basin is markedly calmer than the north, which is exactly why Sirmione suits families and nervous swimmers. The lake still has a wind timetable — a northerly in the morning, a southerly through the afternoon — and summer afternoons can produce a thunderstorm out of a blue sky. Life jackets are standard on commercial boats here; tell us ages and we will match you to a boat with shade and a sensible ladder.
The season runs April to October, and the best light on this peninsula is the first hour and the last.
