An island-wide evening, most easily started at Mahón
Sunset sailing in Menorca is an island idea rather than a port one — people search for it by the island’s name, not by a harbour. That matters when you book, because the departure point should follow where you are staying and what you want to look at, not the other way round.
Mahón is the easiest place to start one. The port is the largest natural harbour in the Mediterranean, running nearly 6 km inland, with the charter row along the Moll de Llevant, and at least three businesses there sell evening departures. You sail the length of a harbour that has been fortified, garrisoned and painted for three centuries, with the light doing the work.
What it costs, and what you get
Private sunset charters are quoted from about €300 for a llaüt sunset or sunrise run at Mahón, and about €500 for a private sunset on a small-group catamaran in the north. The northern evening departures run roughly 19:00 to 21:15 in season, and the Mahón evenings follow a similar clock, sliding earlier as autumn comes in.
A llaüt is the boat most people actually want for this: traditional, shaded, slow, carrying 7 to 12 guests. A catamaran gives you more deck and a flatter ride. Neither is a party boat unless you ask for one.
The honest part
Mahón faces east. The sun does not set into the sea from this harbour; it sets behind the town and lights the far shore. That is a genuinely lovely sail, and it is not the horizon photograph some listings imply — if that is what you came for, a west-coast departure is the honest answer and we will arrange it instead.
Direction and timing remain a skipper’s call: the Tramuntana decides which coast works on any given evening, and boats here adapt routes daily to wind and sea. Peak season is May to October with the high band from late June to early September.
Who runs it
The boat and the skipper are a licensed local business; we arrange, confirm and stay your contact. Charter registration is verified directly with each business, because Balearic operators do not publish registry numbers online. Cancellation terms are per boat and vary from free cancellation 48 hours ahead to a sliding scale beginning a month out.
