The shortest good airport run in the Alps
Ljubljana Airport is the region’s only air gateway and Kranjska Gora is under 65 km from it, about 50 minutes by road. For a winter trip that number does a lot of work: you can land in the morning and be on snow after lunch, which is not true of most alpine resorts reached through a major hub.
The route runs motorway most of the way and then turns up the valley towards the village, which sits at the head of it with the range on three sides.
Price, vehicles and luggage
This is the one Julian Alps transfer route with a clean published price. A local transfer company lists about 110 EUR for a car and about 150 EUR for a minivan taking up to 8 passengers, priced per vehicle rather than per head. Standard fleets run cars for up to 4 passengers and minivans for up to 8.
Shared seats are cheaper — from about 12 EUR on the city route, with the mountain routes priced dynamically and no per-route fare captured in our research — so a solo traveller travelling light should ask us for both numbers before choosing.
Winter luggage is the thing people underestimate. Boards, boot bags and a child’s kit take room that four suitcases would not, so say what is coming and the vehicle gets sized for it rather than argued about at the kerb.

Season and cancellation
Kranjska Gora is a winter town first — the ski season runs December to March or early April, with snowmaking making snow near-certain from late December to late March. Book the transfer when you book the accommodation for school-holiday weeks; the vehicles that take kit go first. In summer the same run is the gateway to hiking and to the Vršič Pass, which closes for winter, typically from late October or November until early May.
